Communication Is Key With Your Doctor

Seeing a medical professional can be a bit intimidating for some people and can often throw off some of your thoughts and concerns. Here are a few tips to help...

1.    Write down 2-3 main talking points that are most important to you. Then bring in these notes to discuss and review with your doctor. Ask a follow-up question for greater clarification if need be.

2.    Be honest and open with your doctor about your health. They are there to help. The more they know about you the more likely you are to feel better quicker.

3.    Two is better than one. Take a friend or family member with you to an appointment. Often there is a lot said and a lot to coordinate in your treatment plan. Having someone with you to talk about and clarify your treatment plan can help reduce confusion and delay of care.

4.    Remember that it takes a lot of people in the practice to care of you. Trust the nurses and pharmacist to also help with your concerns and to follow up.

5.     Bring your medication in a small purse or bag. This enables the doctor to quickly see the medication you are taking and to look for accuracy as well.

A few simple strategies may go a long way in making your visit more understandable and successful in restoring you quickly back to health.
