As one of six children born into a military family, Dr. Kallgren moved frequently during his childhood, ultimately attending high school in Southern California and St. Louis, Missouri.  He graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, while also tutoring scholarship athletes and joining the Air National Guard, ultimately earning the rank of Captain and Flight Surgeon.  Residency and Fellowship were done at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas where he was both Chief Resident, and honored to receive the Dripps Award for most outstanding resident.  He was voted Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year by his residents and fellows after working for 2 years back at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology where he helped to re-establish their Pain Fellowship program.     

Dr. Kallgren spent over 20 years in Portland, Oregon where he ran a busy practice in addition to serving on several boards, doing research, giving numerous lectures around the country, and consulting with entities including the Board of Medical Examiners.  

Dr. Kallgren is excited to have moved back to Arizona and has become enamored with the Valley of the Sun and all the wonderful patients he has met and treated.  He takes great pride in working with patients on holistic, individualized treatment plans, focusing on recovery and return to function, and avoiding opioids when possible.  Dr. Kallgren is both an advocate and participant in living a healthy lifestyle emphasizing nutrition, exercise, yoga, meditation, and stress management.  When not working he enjoys spending time with family, hiking, fly-fishing, and any outdoor activities that get him into nature!
