Foot Pain Has Always Been My Achilles Heel

Has foot and heel pain been plaguing you? Both are common and can affect many of us over our lifetime.

When you think that the average person, who has an average stride and lives to the age of eighty, will walk approximately 110,000 miles over his or her lifetime, it is no wonder our feet hurt at times. That is approximately the distance of walking around the world five times.

Our level of activity can certainly impact our foot pain, but so can wearing shoes that do not fit properly. High-heeled shoes end up placing significant pressure on the toes for example. Some medical conditions such as diabetes, venous insufficiency, or obesity increase the risk for foot pain as well.

In many instances, the location and quality of the pain are indicators as to the source of the pain. If the pain is isolated in the big toe, you may be struggling with a bout of gout. This can be caused by elevated levels of uric acid in the body and can flare with certain types of food.

If the pain emanates more from the heel or arch of the foot and is worse in the morning, you may be dealing with plantar fasciitis. This can be treated with rest, arch supports, medications, or injections.

If you are dealing with nerve pain between toes, at the ball of the foot, you may be dealing with Morton’s neuroma which is a thickening of tissue around the irritated nerve.

The list of possible conditions that cause foot pain is extensive, so please talk to your Advanced Spine and Pain specialist. If it turns out you need more specialized care through podiatry, we can connect you with some of the best podiatrists in the state. When it comes to foot pain talk to us at ASAP, and your feet will be in good hands.
