Dr. David Currie became an anesthesiologist to save lives, but he became a pain physician to change lives.
Dr. Currie attended college at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in English Literature and pre-medical studies. He went to medical school at Penn State College of Medicine before completing a residency in anesthesiology at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospitals. He then moved to Tucson, AZ to complete a fellowship in pain medicine.
Pain and aging impact every person’s life, and Dr. Currie endeavors to provide the latest evidence-based treatments with the ultimate goal of improving function, activity, health and happiness in his patients. He combines the tried-and-true foundations of interventional pain management, such as epidural steroid injections and facet ablations, with emerging cutting-edge technologies, such as basivertebral nerve radiofrequency ablation, Vertiflex Superion, minimally invasive lumbar decompression, kyphoplasty, spinal cord stimulation, and peripheral nerve stimulation.
Dr. Currie is passionate about education and patient advocacy. As an assistant professor and the medical student clerkship director for anesthesiology at the University of Arizona, he was active in training the next generation of anesthesiologists and pain physicians and has maintained his position as assistant professor at the University of Arizona. Prior to that, he served as the president of the New York Society of Anesthesiologists Residents and Fellows Section. He has visited Capitol Hill on multiple occasions to meet with legislators and advocate on behalf of his patients.
Dr. Currie loves Arizona because people live here for the active lifestyle, whether that means walking your dog, wrestling with your children, or playing 18 holes of golf. He believes in personalized treatment regimens and prides himself on listening to the needs of his patients
Dr. Currie maintains membership in the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, North American Spine Society, and the Spine Intervention Society.
