Give Us The Cold Or Warm Shoulder

Shoulder pain is a fairly common ailment affecting a great many. Shoulders are not typically given much thought until they hurt, and then once they do start to hurt we realize just how many simple activities require their utilization to perform – brushing your teeth, brushing or shampooing your hair, pulling a plate out of the cabinet, scratching your back.

The shoulder is made up of three separate bones: your humerus, your scapula, and your clavicle. These three are held together and in place with muscles and tendons, commonly referred to as a rotator cuff. Rotator cuff injuries are more common in individuals who use their shoulders frequently for work, such as construction workers, and increase in frequency as we age. If left untreated, rotator cuff issues can result in permanent loss of range of motion and weakness.

Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs found in joints throughout the body as well as the shoulder and act to decrease friction between bones, muscles, and tendons. Increased use of the shoulder can result in inflammation of these sacs and is referred to as bursitis.

There are a number of other potential issues that could crop up in the shoulder to cause pain including arthritis, nerve impingement, tendonitis, and others. The good news is that these ailments can be treated at Advanced Spine and Pain. So, give us the cold or warm shoulder causing you distress, and we will do our very best to identify the cause and deliver appropriate treatment to remedy your shoulder pain.
