The 10 Worst Jobs for Back Pain

If anyone would know which jobs contribute to poor backs and increased back pain, it would be spine doctors, who see back pain patients on a daily basis.

In 2016, the North American Spine Society (NASS) polled its members requesting they rank the ten worst back pain-producing professions based on their experience with patients. The following is that list:

            10.       Motherhood and Baby Care

            9.         Factory Workers

            8.         Auto Mechanics

            7.         Warehouse Workers

            6.         Dentists

            5.         Manual Laborers

            4.         Office Workers

            3.         Nurses

            2.         Construction Workers

            1.         Professional Drivers

Each of these professions stresses the back in differing ways and to varying degrees. Repetitive movement, awkward positions, heavy lifting, long hours, and emotional stress, all lead to increased neck and back pain. Maybe your profession did not make the top ten, please do not feel bad. To the best of our knowledge, there are no jobs or professions that do not tax the body in some way, shape, or form.

Do your best to take breaks, lift with proper form to avoid unnecessary strain on the back, and avoid prolonged periods of time without stretching or movement. If it is too late and your job has already contributed to some back pain, fear not. Advanced Spine and Pain is here to support you and your back. Give us a call ASAP.
