Can a Single Injection Cure Shingles Pain?

Shingles is relentless. It presents in the form of a rash and burning pain from the same viral infection as chicken pox. If not treated expeditiously, or sometimes even despite treatment, pain could persist for weeks, months, or even years thereafter.

Typically, an antiviral medication along with a nerve pain medication can help reduce this type of pain; however, there are cases when Gabapentin, an oral medication used to treat pain caused by shingles, proves to be ineffective. Fortunately for Advanced Spine and Pain (ASAP) patients, we may be able to help via interventional pain management procedures, such as epidural steroid injections. These are performed directly at the level where the virus is camped out and we have seen remarkable results in persistent pain relief after a single treatment for many patients in which nothing else helped.

If you have ongoing shingles-related pain, come see the providers at Advanced Spine and Pain (ASAP) to see how we can help you!
