More Expanded Services at ASAP: Electrodiagnostic Testing!
At this point, you may be asking yourself, “what is electrodiagnostic testing?”
Electrodiagnostic testing (EDx) is comprised of two studies: the nerve conduction velocity (NCV) and the electromyography (EMG). The NCV assesses sensory and motor nerve function via small electric impulses, while the EMG assesses muscle function via a small needle. Together, the NCV & EMG help to determine why a patient is having symptoms.
While imaging studies, such as x-rays, CT, or MRI scans are great to study a patient’s anatomical structures, it does not demonstrate how well the nerves and muscles of a patient are working. Therefore, in many instances, Advanced Spine and Pain obtain both imaging and electrodiagnostic studies to provide us with a greater wealth of objective evidence regarding our patients’ conditions.
If you have numbness, tingling, radiating nerve pain, muscle pain, or true weakness, you are most likely a candidate for electrodiagnostic testing. To find out more information about EDx, or whether you are a candidate, please contact ASAP!
