Play That Funky Music

Most people around the globe tend to have a deep connection with music. Music has the ability to remind us of good times, bad times, and everything in between.

Music can powerfully trigger an emotional response. There are a number of studies that now indicate there may also be a link between music and improved mental health as well as reduced anxiety and pain.

Listening to music apparently increases the production of dopamine in the brain which is a powerful mood-enhancing chemical. The exact mechanism of action for the reduction in pain is still unknown but there is some current of thought that suggests that music may enhance the release of “natural pain relievers” in the brain while decreasing the release of cortisol, a chemical released when increased stress is present.

Whatever music you listen to whether it is rock, country, folk, jazz, rhythm and blues, pop, classical, or something else, if it puts a smile on your face, helps you remember good times and fond memories, it may very well be therapeutic in the treatment of your pain. So, break out those old records, CDs, iPod's, and play that funky music to your heart’s content.
