Woman with low back pain

Treatment Highlight: Epidural Steroid Injection

ASAP recently met with a patient, JT, who shared her long history of low back pain and with pain radiating into her lower extremities.

JT admitted she struggled at times during the day with shopping and walking to the back of the store to get groceries. She stated that she was always trying to find an excuse to sit or to lean on something to help ease the pain. JT was grateful when family members offered to run the errands for her. Imaging studies were ordered and despite the apparent disc bulge, conservative measures were limited. Simple stretching combined with ice and heat were helpful, but only to a certain extent. Additionally, physical therapy was helpful; however, the pain returned shortly after her appointment ended.

Subsequently, the patient agreed to trial an injection-based treatment called epidural steroid injections as an additional tool to help reduce her symptoms of pain and improve functioning. She reported progress with each injection about 2-4 weeks apart. Activities of standing or walking longer along with her previous exercises helped. JT states that she now uses anti-inflammatories less often and feels more relieved throughout her day. Call ASAP today to see if this is an option to help reduce your pain.
