Treatment Highlight: Radiofrequency Ablation
One of Advanced Spine and Pain’s most effective treatments for localized neck or low to mid back pain is a procedure called radiofrequency ablation.
It is generally preceded by two separate diagnostic nerve block injections to temporarily block the pain. If a reasonable amount of pain is blocked short term, we would proceed with a radiofrequency ablation.
Unlike injecting medication to block the nerve, during the radiofrequency ablation or RFA, the tip of the needle is heated essentially cauterizing the nerve and providing much longer lasting pain relief, usually around six months. These peripheral nerves do eventually regenerate; however, during that time significant pain relief can be seen.
If a repeat RFA is required six months down the road, the diagnostic injections would not have to be repeated and ASAP would directly proceed with the repeat RFA. Contact us today to see what treatments are best suited to help alleviate your pain.
